NDBC has recently revised the NDBC Handbook of Automated Data Quality Control Checks and Procedures. The new document can be found on our Publications page.

NDBC Updates Quality Control Handbook

The National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) revised the NDBC Handbook of Automated Data Quality Control Checks and Procedures, which details the automatic quality control (QC) used by NDBC to ensure accurate and reliable measurements.

Updates Include:

  1. Streamlining the document for readability.
  2. Adding critical information about the Tropical Atmosphere Ocean (TAO) and Deep-ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis (DART) buoys.
  3. Adding recent buoy payload information.
  4. Fully documenting existing QC algorithms and removing ones no longer in use.
  5. Creating new data flow and derived observation diagrams.
  6. Outlining current sampling schemes and accuracy specifications in easy to follow table formats.
